Why I’ve Decided to Go Back to School
When I graduated from college, I thought I knew exactly what I wanted to do with my life. I always loved Fashion and had this dream of being a “big wig” at a major fashion retailer or some sort of creative in that field. I decided to major in Communications at the University of Washington because that was the only option that was broad enough to cover almost any type of career. Most large university’s don’t offer specialized majors which leaves a lot of students pondering what they are going to do with their degree after they finish. But now there are so many options for schooling that offer a specialized career path. One of them is interior design and just so happened to open here in Seattle, which is why I am so excited to share Heritage School of Interior Design with you!
Read on to see why I’ve decided to go back to school.
After college, I did what most students do and work their way up the corporate ladder to land a job they think is their “dream job”. In my case, this happened for me after many years at Nordstrom, I was an Assistant Buyer for Home. But after having Tayler I quickly realized how important it was to have a career that I was not only passionate about, but also offered a schedule that worked for me and my family. So I decided to leave the corporate world behind and think about ways that I could be self-employed.
That’s when I started this blog and although I never thought blogging would support the income I was getting before, I knew it was a great jumping off point that would lead to other opportunities in the future (and boy was I right). What started as a place for me to share my love for fashion and style, quickly turned into so much more. It’s opened so many doors and offered me the chance to share everything I love with others in hopes to inspire them. One of those categories became my home after we started our remodel process last year. I shared the entire experience start to finish with all of you and it quickly made me realize, not only did you love the content, but I had no idea I was capable of creating and designing an entire home on my own. I hand selected every finish (flooring, tile, lighting, accessories, etc) and even contributed in designing the entire floor plan, along with the help of our space designer who professionally drew the plans and had them signed off my an engineer. I was so empowered after it was done that I decided this was something that I needed to pursue further.
Since I am 100% self-taught at this point, I am always open to learning new trades and skills that could support me in running my own business in the future. That’s why I was so excited to hear that Heritage had come to Seattle because it’s a school that specializes in exactly what I want to do - Interior Design!
ABOUT HERITAGE
The vision of Heritage School of Interior Design is to empower the creativity of aspiring designers with a quality, hands-on education to achieve personal growth and professional success. You can complete their accelerated program in just 12 weeks as a full-time student, or they also offer weekend courses for those who work full-time. Individual courses may also be taken by students not enrolled in the Master Certification Program, and by industry professionals with relevant design education or work experience (this is what I will be doing).
That being said, I could not be more excited about this new chapter in my career and I can’t wait to share my entire experience while attending Heritage with you all! I am staring with one course the end of October and will be completing the remainder of my courses in Winter quarter (January 2020).
