exterior inspiration

For our home inspiration, I'm calling it the "coastal farmhouse". We live near the beach and rustic/nautical decor has always been the theme of my homes, but thanks to Chip and Joanna Gaines, I am head over heels in love with the "modern farmhouse". Our house is currently a craftsman style, so the integrity of the house will stay the same, but we will make it more farmhouse style by getting all new siding, painting it white and adding a brand new front porch.

We weren't originally going to do a porch, but now I think it may be one of the things I'm most excited for. Not only will it give the house amazing charm, but we get the majority of the afternoon sun in the front of the house, so it's perfect for us. I can already envision us sipping wine and watching Tayler play in the front yard with the neighbor kids {if I only I had a Chip to built me a porch swing!}.

I have always loved a white house, but for some reason, you don't see many of them here in the Pacific Northwest. Probably because of our extreme weather - I don't think they hold up as well, but there is just something about a white house that is so charming. For me, doing black exterior windows is something that was worth the extra money {I didn't realize they had to hand paint every single window in order to achieve this}, because it really makes the house pop. We plan on doing an all wood deck and wood door - I just love the combo of black and white with wood elements.
